DIVISION ONE

With leaders Mountsorrel Juniors having a day off it gave the chasing pack a chance to catch up Loughborough Dynamo made no mistake when they took on Ibstock. Dynamo's unbeaten start to the season continues with a comfortable win over Ibstock, although they never really got out of second gear. Loughborough had the lion's share of possession in the early stages without conjuring a real goal scoring opportunity. It was in the fifteenth minute when the first serious attempt on target came after a good interchange between striker Josh Buchanan and winger Asif Uddin resulted in Uddin forcing a good save from Tom Hunt in the Ibstock goal. The breakthrough came on 17 minutes when Dynamo won a corner after a good spell of pressure, Karl Whymark fed midfielder Callum McCallion short, who teed the ball up for Whymark to send over a pinpoint cross that was met at the far post by skipper Grant Ryder who's header found the net for his third goal in as many games. Dynamo started to spring into life and as the space opened up for them, the chances came. On 22 minutes McCallion found Alan Lee whose shot was well saved by Hunt. Just after the half hour mark Uddin sent in another cross that was met by Lee but again the keeper was equal to the effort, then a minute later McCallion's dazzling run found Buchanan whose header sailed narrowly over the crossbar to take the teams into half time with Dynamo edging things with a slender 1-0 lead. The second period was only eight minutes old when Buchanan got his eighth of the season with a typical brave header - just beating the advancing Hunt to the ball on the edge of the Ibstock area to double the lead for Dynamo. Dynamo seemed to sit back for a short time and Ibstock enjoyed a good spell of possession and forced David Walker into a fine save ten minutes into the half - superbly tipping over when the ball was destined for his top left hand corner from a fierce long drive. A minute later, Walker was again on form to deny a 25 yard free kick that he pushed over the bar to preserve his sides lead. Dynamo got hold of the game once again and produced some fine flowing, passing football and on 15 minutes McCallion fed Uddin whose shot flew narrowly wide. Five minutes later Lee burst into the visitors box and as he was about to shoot, was bundled over for a cast iron penalty. Whilst Ryder and Whymark couldn't decide whose turn it was to take the spot kick, it was left to McCallion who clinically placed the ball past the helpless Hunt to lead 3-0 midway through the half. Much credit to Ibstock, they refused to give up and pulled a goal back on 22 minutes after a mix up in Dynamo's rearguard gifted their striker the opportunity to give his side a lifeline, from a tight angle he finished superbly. With fifteen minutes left, Buchanan flicked on the ball into the path of Lee who shot on the run but was cynically fouled as he let fly, the referee pointed to the spot without hesitation for Dynamo's second penalty of the game. This time it was the turn of right back Rob Reeve who stepped up and made no mistake with a bullet of a penalty to put the game out of the reach of the visitors. Mowbray Rangers just came up short against Ellistown Youth going down 3 - 2, Gilmorton Juniors are one point behind on nine points after a 6 - 1 thrashing of Wigston Youth.

DIVISION TWO

Burbage Old Boys and Waltham Athletic share the lead division one both on twelve points after 5 games, Burbage beat Highfield Rangers 2 - 0 and Waltham had 3 - 2 win against Kibworth Imps Kegworth travelled to Waltham to face Waltham Athletic. The home side started well and some high tempo football pushed The Imps back into their own half. Kegworth defended strongly with both regular centre backs missing from the starting line up and gradually pulled themselves into the game. The opening goal of the game went to The Imps when Sam Gee cut in from the left after seeing his corner half cleared, and saw his shot take a wicked deflection that gave the keeper no chance. The remainder of the half was fairly even, but Athletic were unlucky to go to the break behind.

The first goal of the second half was always going to be important, and before Kegworth new it the scores were level as Waltham scored in the first minute. The Imps though struck back immediately, as Russell Hallam's cross into the box was handled by a home defender, giving John Bowles the chance to restore The Imps lead from the penalty spot. After this early outbreak of goals the game settled back to its previous pattern, with both teams battling hard to take control. It was Waltham who drew level again, when Kegworth failed to clear their lines gifting a goal to the home side. With ten minutes to go Waltham were in the lead, a powerful shot from the left was too hot for the visiting keeper to handle, leaving another simple finish for the attacking team. Try as they might The Imps could find no way back, a cruel bounce of the ball denying the visitors strike force on one occasion and in the last minute the home keeper saving on the line from an Oscar Wall header. Birstall United made no mistake with the 5 - 1 demolition of Ibstock United Youth , Barrow Town won on the road at Whetstone Juniors with a 4 - 1 win The reverse fixture saw a reverse in results this time Barrow taking all three points. Andy McKay took a fine drive from the edge of the area into the bottom left corner only to be cancelled out by a goal-mouth scramble after a well flighted free-kick. Minutes later Harry Bowley converted from the edge of the box after a cleverly crafted one-two. After the break Barrow continued to pile on the pressure and Lewis Fraser got between the Whetstone goalkeeper and his centre half to head into an empty net. The Barrow defence stood firm after a number of attacks and a clearance to Harry Bowley sealed the game in the dying minutes with his clever run outpacing the defence and shooting low. . There was some great football being played and fine inter-passing that led to all the first half goals.

The second half was a more testing time and credit to the Swifts they pulled it back to 3-4 with goals from Wesley York (2) and Daniel Johnson with some well taken goals and some steely determination. Fortunately, order was restored through the team captain Scott Maxwell with a fine goal and the tie was sealed by Callum Doyle with his second, and Westfield's 6th goal. This was a hard fought victory thoroughly deserved even if it did get a little tense for the managers.
